Bob Dylan - Paths of Victory (Bootleg Series, Vols. 1-3: Rare & Unreleased, 1961-1991)
Trails of troubles,
Roads of battles,
Paths of victory,
I shall walk.
The trail is dusty
And my road it might be rough,
But the better roads are waiting
And boys it ain't far off.
Trails of troubles,
Roads of battles,
Paths of victory,
We shall walk.
I walked down by the river,
I turned my head up high.
I saw that silver linin'
That was hangin' in the sky.
Trails of troubles,
Roads of battles,
Paths of victory,
We shall walk.
The evenin' dusk was rollin',
I was walking down the track.
There was a one-way wind a-blowin'
And it was blowin' at my back.
Trails of troubles,
Roads of battles,
Paths of victory,
We shall walk.
The gravel road is bumpy,
It's a hard road to ride,
But there's a clearer road a-waitin'
With the cinders on the side.
Trails of troubles,
Roads of battles,
Paths of victory,
We shall walk.
That evening train was rollin',
The hummin' of its wheels,
My eyes they saw a better day
As I looked across the fields.
Trails of troubles,
Roads of battles,
Paths of victory,
We shall walk.
The trail is dusty,
The road it might be rough,
But the good road is a-waitin'
And boys it ain't far off.
Trails of troubles,
Roads of battles,
Paths of victory,
We shall walk.

If you listen to "Modern Times" and "Together Through Life (2009) you can hear that he still is perfectly able to sing! He still has a beautiful voice! And he is still a great composer! If you were singing for many hours, maybe many times per week, almost all year round, don't you think you would get a soar throat too? Don't insult him! :-)

If you listen to any live recordings from the early 80''s you will hear what happened to his voice. The intensity and compasion just shreaded his voice. That and the fact that alot of those shows he was doing 25-27 songs a night , night after night throw in a couple of packs of Marlbourghs a day and there you go. I will still see him every time he ventures into my neck of the woods.

Electrified -- I enjoy Modern Times and happen to think that Love & Theft is one of the best albums he's ever made. What I was talking about (and what I think Archy was too) was the quality of his live performances. I have nothing against changes, but the current live shows are a far cry from 1999, despite brilliant moments. Of course Modern Times shows Dylan still has the old magic in the studio.

Jesus. What happened between then and the tours he's done since 2004? Even here he used to be so vital. Now he sounds like wind rattling through a corpse.
